Early days in April and mounds of snow still dot the ground, necessitating changes to competition schedules or wiping out entire series. (Mother Nature's apologies to the Baseball and Softball programs.) Consequently, indoor pursuits prevailed in March...and not just binge-watching Netflix during the blizzard. No, March meant turning one's attention to the job search or landing the right graduate school placement. While the blizzard postponed Siena College's annual Career, Internship, and Graduate School Fair by a full week, a good number of Siena student athletes remained cozy and warm with summer plans already simmering.

Rather than allow senior year to pass, fretting about graduation plans, Field Hockey's Maggie Liguori returned to classes in September with an offer in hand. She leveraged her summer internship at Target into a career position there. In his dauntless pursuit of a career in medicine, Bryant Hatala (Cross Country/Track) sought a commission in the United States Marine Corps. Ryan Vyskocil (Men's Soccer) interviewed for and accepted a spot in Key Bank's managerial development program. Ryan gets one month's grace and starts in July.

A number of graduating student athletes invariably remain in Loudonville past May to garner the M.S. in Accounting at Siena College. Danielle DeGroot (Field Hockey), Shannon Bauer (Cross Country/Track), and Jimmy Merrill (Men's Basketball) figure among these. Danielle already has an offer from KPMG for Fall 2018! Others will depart for divergent climes for graduate and professional study. For Emily Hovey (Swimming and Diving), it's a matter of choosing among offers as she continues her education to become a school guidance counselor. Similarly, Kelly Russo (Cross Country/Track) cleared a hurdle with acceptance to one medical school and awaits word on others.

For those returning to Siena in the fall, internships and summer research or work beckon. Julia Dunbar (Women's Tennis) sent several applications for National Science Foundation's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) positions. The recipient of several of these prestigious positions, she recently accepted the ProHealth REU at Indiana University-Bloomington in the School of Informatics and Computing. Mike Vitale (Men's Lacrosse) will pursue a finance internship with Ayco (where Katie O'Rourke [Swimming and Diving] inked her contract for a career position). Erica Askew (Swimming and Diving) was just apprised that she earned her top choice, Pace University, as a Siena Summer Legal Fellow. Cara McQuillan heads to NYC for an internship in UHY's auditing department, and Tommaso Centemero (Men's Soccer) will intern with Louis Tranquilli, Financial Advisor, in Clinton, NJ. Also Jersey bound, Emily Santos (Women's Soccer) plans to intern in the Project Management and Operations group at KPMG's Montvale office.

When spring finally does appear, Siena Saints already see their summer plans blossoming.
