Siena Swimming was victorious in four events in its season-opening meet at Rider Saturday afternoon, capturing top places in the 500 yd freestyle, 100 yd butterfly, 200 yd Individual Medley and the 400 yd freestyle relay. The Saints (0-1, 0-1) ultimately fell to their MAAC foe on the road, 101-163, opening in dual meet action against the Broncs for the second consecutive year.
Senior captain
Elizabeth Fournier, who finished the 2017-18 season as one of the team's two top-8 finishers at the MAAC Championships, claimed the top spot in the 100 fly swimming a 1:01.51, While senior
Emma Rupert posted a 5:34.15 in the 500 free to place first.
Freshmen
Isabel Harms and
Abigail Sheridan began their collegiate careers with impressive times in their events, with Harms winning the 200 IM with a 2:21.59, and Sheridan placing second in the 100 fly at 1:03.11.
The 400 yd freestyle relay team of
Carrie Bonvissuto, Sheridan, Fournier and
Rachel Brown took the top spot to conclude the meet, swimming a 3:48.15.
Rider (1-1, 1-0) controlled their home-opening meet from the beginning, taking each of the top-3 positions in the 200 medley relay, 1000 backstroke, 1000 breaststroke, 200 fly, 200 breast and 50 free races.
Continuing their fall 2018 slate, Siena will return home to the Siena Swim Center for the first time this season next Wednesday, hosting Holy Cross in a dual meet on Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m.
