Loudonville, NY – Siena College Swimming captured three events Wednesday evening, as it battled Holy Cross at the Siena Swim Center in its 2018-19 home opener. The Saints saw the pool for the second time In their fall season, succumbing to the Crusaders, 161-118.
The Green and Gold (0-2, 0-1) set 31 best times on the season in individual events, taking the top spot in the 100 yard back stroke, 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard individual medley. Sophomore
Shannon Leary swam a 1:11.18 to win the 100 breast, while freshmen
Abigail Sheridan (1:01.87) and
Sarah Duggan (2:17.85) raced to victory in the 100 back and 200 IM, respectively.
Competing in its second dual meet of the season, Holy Cross (4-5) set the pace for the meet by taking top finishes in five of the first seven events prior to the one meter diving portion of the meet. The team took home 16 first place finishes overall, including both relay events and both diving portions of the evening.
Crusaders' senior Casey Sherman posted a 283.80 score in the six-dive three meter diving portion, nearly breaking  a pool record for the event, which was set by Rider's Breanne Hatter (285.60) in 2017.
Siena will continue its Fall 2018 season this weekend, taking part in the first of two scheduled tri-meets of the year. The Saints will travel to Vestal, NY on Saturday, Oct. 20 to swim Binghamton and MAAC foe Niagara, with action beginning at 1:00 p.m.
