The Siena swim team saw multiple season-best times and captured a pair of events in a dual meet loss at Vermont Saturday afternoon. The Saints fell to the Catamounts, 140-78, in their third consecutive weekend of competition.
The team took home the top spot in the 400yd freestyle relay just prior to the conclusion of the meet, with the team of Abigail Sheridan, Francesca Tinucci, Elizabeth Fournier and Rachel Brown clocking in a season-best 3:46.22 in the event. Fournier also took home an individual win in the 100yd butterfly with a 1:01.68, her second victory in the race this season.
Vermont overtook the Saints in the bulk of the meet, winning the afternoon's first six events and 11 overall, including the one and three meter diving sessions of the day.
In addition to their relay Success at the end of the meet, Siena (0-4, 0-2) also posted a season- best time in the 400yd medley relay at the day's start, placing second with a 4:15.66 behind the team of Isabel Harms, Shannon Leary, Fournier and Carrie Bonvissuto.
The action came with a handful of second place finishes for the Saints, including a 26.13 in the 50yd freestyle by Brown, her best running of the event this season by over two-tenths of a second. Sheridan continued an impressive start to her rookie season by taking second place in the 100yd backstroke with a 1:04.10, while senior Emma Rupert finished as the runner-up in the 500yd freestyle (5:29.78) and junior Larissa Nanna followed suit in the 100yd breaststroke (1:11.61).
Five swimmers posted career-best times in the meet, with four debuting in events for the first time in their collegiate histories. This included all three freshmen, with Sarah Duggan competing in the 100yd fly (1:05.99), Harms taking third in the 500yd freestyle (5:43.58) and Sheridan placing fourth in the 200yd freestyle (2:03.99). Additionally, sophomore Sydney Lautenslager took part in the 100yd backstroke (1:05.94) for the first time while donning the Green and Gold, and junior Katelyn Ludwicki improved her all-time best in the 100yd fly with a 1:06.28, besting a mark that had been set against Vermont two years ago.
The Saints are back in action at the Siena Swim Center in two weeks for their second of three home meets during the 2018-19 season. The team will host Wagner in a dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 1:00 p.m, facing off against the Seahawks for the first time since 2014.
