Energy-Filled Volleyball Defeats Saint Peter’s

Saints Earn First Conference Win In Four Set Victory

LOUDONVILLE, NY - Sophomore Brooke Rogers had a career match, as she collected a team-high 13 kills, six assisted blocks, and five digs en route to a Siena Saints victory over the Saint Peter's Peacocks by a final score of 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-15). Rogers also hit a team-high .385 in the victory.

Fellow Sophomore Nicole Deobler notched a double-double for the Saints (2-23, 1-12), putting up 12 kills and 16 digs. Classmate Dakota Jackson chipped in with 10 kills, hitting a season-high .348. JoJo Ishida snagged 22 digs, with senior Antonija Ivanovic getting 14 digs. Senior Julia Burzynski provided a spark with nine kills and five assisted blocks. Junior Kelly Chaney was also big up front, netting two solo and two assisted blocks. Sophomore Jessica Eblin and freshman Meg Giordano facilitated the offense, combining for 48 assists.

For Saint Peter's (6-22, 3-11), Alanis Alvarado had a match-high 17 kills and 16 digs for a double-double for the Peacocks, while Karen Raimu notched 14 kills. Angelee Ng tossed out 33 assists, While Alexus Sharp was strong at the net with her hand in five of Saint Peter's eight team blocks.

"I thought the team played really, really well today," said head coach Vilis Ozols. "They did a really good job of translating what they've been working on in the practice gym and implementing it in the match setting, and that was the difference. I thought our setters ran the offense really well and I thought Brooke had a spectacular day."

Siena gained an early lead, putting up an early 8-2 lead as Deobler was sharp early with three kills. Strong consistent play kept the score moving in favor of the green and gold, as they took the set 25-15 to take a 1-0 lead.

The second set did not start well for the Saints, as Saint Peter's took an early 6-0 lead. The Peacocks would extend their lead, and take a 14-6 lead. However, Siena would make it all the way back with a 9-0 run that featured a pair of kills by Rogers and multiple Saint Peter's errors to take a 15-14 lead. With the Saints controlling a 21-18 lead, Saint Peter's used a run of their own, a 5-0 run, to take a 23-21 lead. It would be the only set the Saints would drop, falling 25-23 as things went to intermission tied 1-1.

Saint Peter's took control of set three early, and led themselves out to a 14-7 lead. Just like set two, however, Siena would once again come back with a 10-3 run to tie things up at 17-17. But unlike the second set, the Saints would complete the comeback, which included a 5-0 run to end the set for a 25-22 win to take a 2-1 lead.

The green and gold would finish things off in set four, as Deobler, Chaney, Rogers, and senior Katarina Nicic were standouts to complete the win. The Saints would take the set 25-15, giving them the victory.

The Saints return to the floor tomorrow, Sunday, October 28 when Siena plays host to Rider on Senior Day. Five Saints will be honored prior to the match, with first serve going up at 1 p.m.
