Each of the five competing members of Siena Men's Golf's team recorded at least one birdie shot in the opening round of the UCONN Invitational at GreatHorse in Hampden, Massachusetts Sunday. The team's performance under-par helped them to rank second among the 13 squads in attendance in pars made in the opening round, with 58 carded as a team.
Siena, who took the course for fall action for the fourth consecutive week, concluded round one at the par-72, 7,093-yard GreatHorse course in 11th place overall, shooting +18, 306. The Saints sit one stroke behind MAAC rivals Saint Peter's and Fairfield, with host team UCONN leading the way after day one of the 54-hole affair with +6, 294.
The Green and Gold were paced by September's
MAAC Male Golfer of the Month Jared Nelson, senior
Jack Bellardini and freshman
Brad Whitaker who each shot +4, 76 to conclude the tournament's first round tied with 11 other players for 24th place individually.
Sophomore
Pudge Williams collected birdies on holes four & nine, while
Jack Brown went under-par on the 15th hole, with each shooting +6, 78 and +10, 82 to sit in ties for 47th and 73rd, respectively.
Siena is back in action for round two of the UCONN Invitational Monday morning, with action teeing off at 8:30 a.m. in a double-tee start. The Saints will begin from hole 10.
