Saints Fall To Wagner At Home

Siena Saw 17 Season Bests And Five Personal Marks In Loss To The Seahawks

LOUDONVILLE, NY – 11 members of the Siena Swim Team posted season-best times and five notched personal best times Saturday afternoon, as the team fell to non-conference foe Wagner, 157-130, at the Siena Swim Center.

The Saints (0-6) hosted their second dual meet of the 2018-19 season, matching up against the Seahawks (6-1) for the first time in four years and at home for the first time since 2013.

Among the Green and Gold swimmers who achieved career marks was sophomore Sydney Lautenslager, who raced to a 2:32.55 in the 200 yard individual medley, and freshmen Abigail Sheridan (100 yard backstroke – 1:01.32), Isabel Harms (200 yard backstroke – 2:21.00) and Sarah Duggan, who did so twice, setting new benchmarks in her 200 yard freestyle (2:02.00) and 100 yd butterfly (1:04.01) times.

The team also displayed a slew of season-best finishes, en-route to winning six of the meet's 16 events. Things began with a bang for the home team, who claimed the meet-opening 200 yard medley relay with a 2018-19 best time of 1:53.00, thanks to the team of Sheridan, Shannon Leary, Elizabeth Fournier and Rachel Brown.  The Saints also took home the win in the 400 yard freestyle relay, with the team of Francesca Tinucci, Carrie Bonvissuto, Fournier and Brown posting a 3:48.41 to finish first in the event.

Individually, Fournier won the 100 yard butterfly with a season-best 1:00.92, while Harms' PR in the 200 back was good enough for a victory. Senior Emma Rupert won the 200 yard individual medley (2:19.63), while junior Larissa Nanna took first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:10.78), with both swimming their fastest in each event so far this season.

Wagner pulled ahead by winning eight of the first 11 events, including both diving portions of the meet. Senior diver Adrianna Warning set a new pool record in the 3 meter diving event, amounting a score of 314.05 to surpass the record, set in 2016 by Siena's Hailey Beers. Warning came just a point away from tying the pool mark in the 1 meter diving event, set last year by Rider's Breanne Hatter.

Siena continues its fall slate with one final test before concluding the 2018 portion of its season at ECAC winter Championships. The Saints head to Riverdale, NY to swim MAAC foes Manhattan & Monmouth, both of whom they have never been defeated by, on Sat, Nov. 17 at 1 PM.
