Siena (2-3) looks to close out its three-game stretch vs. Patriot League contenders today with a win. The Saints fell to Holy Cross Sunday in the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Springfield Bracket Championship Game, and dropped the home opener Wednesday vs. the conference's preseason favorite Lehigh. Siena will face Holy Cross for a second time on Dec. 22 in Worcester. The Saints enter today's matchup leading the nation in fewest fouls per game (11.4), and rank ninth in fewest turnovers (9.2).
Colgate (4-2) had its four-game winning streak snapped with a 77-56 loss at the Carrier Dome against Syracuse Wednesday. The Raiders led for nearly 15 minutes, and the game was tied with 15 minutes remaining. Today's matchup marks Colgate's second straight road game during a six-game road trip. Overall, the Raiders are in the midst of a stretch where they will play eight of nine away from home. Colgate posted a 19-14 overall record last season and finished second in the Patriot League with a 12-6 conference mark, earning a berth to the College Basketball Invitational. The Raiders were projected to finish third according to this season's Patriot League Preseason Coaches' Poll, and received three first-place votes.
Siena has dominated the all-time series with Colgate, winning 19 of the first 24 meetings. However, the program's will be meeting today for the first time in 19 years. The programs met 11 times as North Atlantic Conference rivals from 1984-89, and Siena defeated Colgate during one of the infamous "measles outbreak" games in 1989 in which no spectators were allowed to attend.
