Siena Men's Lacrosse dropped a non-conference matchup at St. John's on Saturday afternoon 14-7. Chris Robertson led the way with three points from two goals and one assist, to extend his goal scoring streak to 18 games.
Brian Prunty added two goals for Siena (2-2), who have dropped their last two after opening the season with two wins.
Corey Haynes led St. John's (4-2) with five points off of two goals and three assists. Both Jason Debenedictis and Joe Madsen tallied hat-tricks, while also adding an assist for four points apiece.
The Red Storm opened up scoring right away in the first quarter and quickly took a 2-0 lead. Eric Munn tallied his first goal of the season followed by Prunty's first goal of the game to tie it at two with just under 7:30 left in the frame. St. John's then responded by scoring six unanswered goals throughout the remainder of the first quarter and opening minutes of the second to lead 8-2.
Prunty then notched his second goal of the game on a man-up possesion to put Siena back in the mix. While the Red Storm would respond, Robertson picked up his first goal of the game, but not long after St. John's would register two goals to lead 11-4 at the half.
Robertson opened up second half scoring, but man-up goals would aid the Red Storm and Debenedictis would put St. John's up 12-5. Keenan Cook tallied his only goal of the game to outscore St. John's 2-1 in the frame, but the Red Storm remained ahead 12-6 with 15 minutes to play.
St. John's would record two man-up goals in the final frame, along with one from Reilly for Siena. St. John's strong point would come at the face-off x with the Red Storm going three-for-three in the final quarter. St. John's held on to take the win 14-7.
Anthony Tebbano faced 22 shots on goal and stopped eight. Nick Matzelevich led Siena with two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Reilly also picked up three ground balls for the Saints
Siena will return from their two-game road trip and host Bryant on Tuesday, March 13 at 3 p.m.
