Cossack Breaks Doubles Record at Sacred Heart

April 26, 2018

Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

Madysen Cossack set a new Siena Softball single season record with both her 16th and 17th doubles Thursday at Northeast Conference contender Sacred Heart. However, the Saints were swept in their final non-conference action of the spring by scores of 4-1 and 2-1, respectively.

Game One: Sacred Heart 4, Siena 1
Colleen Walsh came up just two outs shy of a no-hitter to lead Sacred Heart (28-18) to victory in the opener. Neysa Ouellette spoiled Walsh's no-hit bid with a one out single to right in the seventh.

Walsh went the distance in the circle for the Pioneers, allowing just the one hit and one unearned run while walking three and striking out three to earn the win.

Sacred Heart scored three of their four runs over the first two innings to claim the early lead. Fallon Bevino and Lauren Delgadillo each tallied RBI singles in the first, while Stephanie Mangiameli added a run-scoring single of her own in the second inning.

Siena (13-21) avoided both the no-hitter and shutout with a seventh inning rally. Isabelle DeChiaro, who also tossed a pair of scoreless innings in relief, started the rally with a walk and came in to score the Saints' lone run on a throwing error.

Game Two: Sacred Heart 2, Siena 1
Bevino opened the home half of the fourth with the game-tying homer and Caroline Kruger singled home the go-ahead run later in the frame as the Pioneers rallied past the Saints to complete the sweep.

Cossack knocked in Siena's only run with her record breaking RBI double to plate Jess Vollmer in the top of the first. Cossack added to her new single season record for doubles with her second of the game in the third.

Brooke Hughes suffered the tough luck loss despite going the distance in the circle for the Saints while scattering seven hits. Shyanne Fennell also tossed a complete game to earn the win for Sacred Heart which has won 11 of 15.

Siena returns home to host Saint Peter's for Senior Day Saturday at noon.
