LOUDONVILLE, NY - Following a six-goal opening quarter for Marist, Siena Men's Lacrosse was unable to come back and fell 11-8 Saturday afternoon at Siena Turf Field. The Saints outscored or tied the Red Foxes in goals every other quarter.
Jake Weinman scored six goals for Marist (3-9, 2-1) to lead all scorers. Gannon Morrison tallied six points off of three goals and three assists. Peyton Smith went 11-for-22 at the faceoff X to help the Red Foxes, while Brian Corrigan stopped 11 shots.
Chris Robertson extended his points scoring streak to 22-games with his five goals for Siena (2-7, 0-3). Brian Prunty registered two goals and one assist, while Mike Reilly notched one goal and one assist. Anthony Tebbano stopped 10 shots in the cage.
In the opening frame, both teams went back and forth while each team's defensive units held off scoring. Matthew Selts struck first for Marist and gave the Red Foxes the lead. In their six unanswered goals in the first quarter, Weinman scored three in the final four minutes to put Marist up 6-0.
Reilly got Siena on the board in the second quarter. Marist would respond, but Robertson would score back-to-back goals as the Saints trailed 7-3 at halftime.
Weinman scored his fourth goal of the game for an 8-3 Marist lead. Prunty would have a hand in the next three goals as he scored then assisted Robertson to put the Saints down by just two, 8-6. With 12 seconds on the clock, Marist would add one more to take a 9-6 lead heading into the final frame.
Marist again jumped ahead 10-6, but Robertson registered his fourth and fifth goal of the game to put Siena down by two, 10-8 with 11:37 to play. Both defensive units battled hard to keep the scorers at bay, but Marist's Weinman tallied his sixth goal with 1:38 on the clock to give Marist what would be an 11-8 victory.
The Saints will host Princeton in their final home game of 2018 on Tuesday, April 10. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m.
