LOUDONVILLE, NY – Former longtime Siena College Athletics administrator and coach Joyce Eggleston has been named to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Hall of Fame Honor Roll Class of 2018. One of two conference honorees along with former Manhattan Director of Athletics Bob Byrnes, Eggleston will be enshrined in "The MAAC Experience" exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in a special ceremony Saturday in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Eggleston is one of three Siena Athletics greats set to be honored in Springfield this weekend.
Earlier this summer, basketball legends Tay Fisher '08 and Melanie (Halker) Moore '99 were named Siena College's 2018 MAAC Hall of Fame Honor Roll inductees. Eggleston becomes the first former Siena Athletics administrator, coach, or student athlete to be selected as a MAAC nominee to the Hall of Fame Honor Roll, which is now in its eighth year. Every year, each MAAC member institution – as well as the conference itself – honors one male and one female from its basketball family as part of the induction class.
Eggleston spent more than three decades as a vital part of the Siena Athletics Family. First hired as Siena's Women's Athletic Coordinator in 1978, she also served as the first head coach of the field hockey program (1978-92), head coach of the softball team (1979-82, 1984-89), and as an assistant coach with the women's basketball program (1978-85), before transitioning exclusively to an administrative role. Eggleston spent the final 15 years of her 36-year tenure as Siena's Associate Director of Athletics, Senior Woman Administrator, and the College's first NCAA Division I Compliance Officer, before retiring in 2014.
In her senior staff roles, Eggleston was responsible for the administration of student athlete services such as student athlete engagement, academic support and educational programming, the NCAA Compliance Office, and served as sport administrator for men's and women's lacrosse, field hockey, men's and women's soccer, water polo, and volleyball. As the athletic department's senior compliance officer, she was responsible for monitoring NCAA rules and regulations regarding eligibility, practice and playing seasons, financial aid, and recruitment of student athletes. Under Eggleston's direction as senior woman's administrator, she helped grow Siena's Division I women's athletic programs to include the additions of women's golf (1996), women's lacrosse (1997), women's swimming and diving (1999), and women's water polo (2001).
Eggleston served as the vice-chair of the MAAC Committee on Athletic Administration, chair of the women's lacrosse committee, and was a member of the MAAC Gender Equity and Diversity, the NCAA Region 1 Post-Graduate Scholarship Committee, the NCAA Amateurism Cabinet, and the National Association of Collegiate Women's Athletic Administrators. She was also a member of Siena College's Human Rights Committee, Administrative Systems Advisory Committee, Risk Management Committee, and Athletics Hall of Fame Committee.
Eggleston was previously honored by the league for her years of service to the conference at the 2014 MAAC Basketball Championships, and was a recipient of the 2014 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner's Award.
A dinner event will be held on Sept. 15 at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Court of Dreams to recognize Eggleston and the rest of this year's Honor Roll inductees. Each honoree will also be profiled in the game program for the 2019 MAAC Basketball Championships, in addition to being featured in a video display at "The MAAC Experience."
