Karen Ramiu led all players on Sunday afternoon with 17 total kills as she aided Saint Peter's to a 3-0 win over the Siena Saints. With the loss, Siena remains winless in conference play this season.
Senior
Katarina Nicic and sophomore
Brooke Rogers were the most efficient on offense, as they combined for nine kills and only one error. Sophomore
Dakota Jackson was solid as well with five kills, while classmate
Nicole Deobler led the team with eight kills. Sophomore JoJo Ishida led the defensive effort with 11 digs, while the offense ran through both senior
Annie Stock and junior
Justine Torre, as each of them tossed out eight assists.
For Saint Peter's (4-16, 2-4 MAAC), Angelleyshka Curbelo followed Ramiu's monster stat with seven kills, while Alanis Alvarado also collected seven kills and eleven digs. The offense was facilitated through Angelee Ng, as she played out 31 assists.
"It was tough losing the lead in the third set," said head coach
Vilis Ozols. "We'll have to work harder at closing out with intensity when we have the advantage."
For the second straight day, the Saints allowed a big run early. As they only trailed 9-8, they would give up an 11-0 run to put Saint Peter's lead to 20-9. The deficit was too large to overcome, as they would fall in the first set 25-12.
Set two would be along the same storyline for Siena. Saint Peter's jumped out to an early 11-4 lead in the set as they were able to fins the floor with a streak of four straight kills to open things up. But the Saints chipped away, as Jackson had three kills in the span to come back within one with the score 16-15. But the Peacocks would keep the advantage, and close things down to win the set 25-19.
Siena looked like they would take a set in the third, as they took a 16-7 lead. But Saint Peter's would crawl their way back in, and overtake the Saints and outlast Siena to the finish line with a 25-22 win to sweep the match.
The Saints return to the floor Wednesday night, as they return home to the ARC to take on Fairfield. First serve goes up at 7 p.m.
