Here's Ten Things to Know About Today's MAAC Opener
1.) Siena (5-8) is set to tip off the program's milestone 30th season of MAAC competition. The Saints have won at least a share of seven MAAC Regular Season Championships, and captured five tournament titles.
2.) Siena is an impressive 20-9 (.690) all-time in MAAC openers. The Saints had won four straight conference lid-lifters prior to last season.
3.) Siena is 11-18 (.379) all-time in MAAC road openers, and has dropped six of their last seven
4.) Siena was predicted to finish 11th (last) according to the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, while Saint Peter's (3-9) was projected 10th.
5.) The Saints wrapped up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 5-8 record. The five non-conference victories marked the program's most in three years, since going 7-4 in 2015-16.
6.) The seven non-conference opponents that Siena lost to currently possess a combined 62-31 (.667) overall record
7.) The Saints bookended the month of December by sweeping the MAAC's weekly awards Monday. Senior
Evan Fisher was named MAAC Player of the Week for the first time in his career, while
Jalen Pickett earned Rookie of the Week honors for the third time.
8.) Siena enters MAAC play ranked in the top-10 nationally in both fewest fouls per game (13.8 - fourth) and fewest turnovers per game (9.9 - ninth), while also leading the league with a stellar 1.30 assist-to-turnover ratio
9.) Siena and Saint Peter's are meeting for the 91st time, with the Peacocks holding a 48-42 advantage. The home team has won 11 of the past 12 matchups, and Saint Peter's has captured eight straight overall in Jersey City.
