LOUDONVILLE, NY – Siena Swimming won 11 of 14 events and displayed seven season-best times Saturday afternoon, en-route to its second win of both the season and in MAAC competition. The Saints defeated conference rival Saint Peter's, 136-87, at the Siena Swim Center to close out regular season action for the 2018-19 campaign.
As part of its Senior Day activities, the team honored Class of 2019 members
Maggie Davenport,
Elizabeth Fournier,
Emma Rupert,
Julianna Sebastian and
Francesca Tinucci prior to the start of the meet. All five swimmers have been on the team for the past four seasons, helping the Saints to capture their first-ever ECAC Championship in 2015.
Fournier was part of the squad's 200-yard medley relay team that won the first event of the day (1:54.39), along with freshman
Abigail Sheridan and juniors
Larissa Nanna and
Rachel Brown. Rupert took first in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:16.20), while Sebastian triumphed in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.70).
Among the swimmers who posted best times was freshman
Sarah Duggan, who set career marks in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, finishing with times of 1:13.05 and 2:34.33, respectively. Duggan was joined by sophomore
Sydney Lautenslager in putting forth a collegiate best time, with Lautenslager doing so in the 200-yard IM (2:22.84). Additionally, junior
Alyssa Lewis saw her first action of the season in the meet, competing in the 50-yard free, 100-yard free and 100-yard fly events.
Nanna posted a season-best mark and a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.02 and also took first in the 100-yard breast (1:09.90). Brown (200-yard free) Sheridan (100-yard back) Lautenslager (500-yard free), junior
Carrie Bonvissuto (100-yard free) and freshman
Isabel Harms (200-yard back) all also cruised to first-place finishes in their respective events.
Siena improves to 2-8 overall and 2-3 in MAAC play with the win, as well as 4-0 all-time over the Peacocks. Both teams will close out their season schedules at the 2019 MAAC Championships in Buffalo, NY Feb. 13-16. Siena finished seventh at last year's edition of the meet and was picked to finish seventh in the conference in the 2019 MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
