SCHENECTADY - The Siena Men's Tennis team came out and snagged a MAAC opening win over the Rider Broncs, sweeping the match by a final score of 7-0.
At No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles was
Sagar Bains, as he led the squad on the day, winning in both of those slots in commanding fashion. In singles, Bains took a 6-3, 6-4 win, while he teamed up with freshman
Matt Nardone to take a 6-1 win in doubles. In doubles competition, the Saints got the win from Bains and Nardone, but fell at No. 2 doubles. However, sophomore
Tomas del Olmo and junior
Guillermo Lopez Torres took the win at No. 1 doubles to win the point for the Saints, going up 1-0 headed into singles action.
In singles, Bains was followed by a pair of tough wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles by del Olmo and Torres. Each of their matches went the distance, as del Olmo took a 7-5, 6-7 (5), 10-7 win. Lopez Torres also came through, taking a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 win to clinch the match. The Saints weren't done, as
Muhammad Sawani,
Geovanny Mendoza, and
Matt Bellino also won in Singles 4-6 to sweep the match.
The Saints return to action in January, returning on the 31st of the month when they kick off the spring season at Saint Joseph's.
