The Siena Saints men's tennis team snagged their first dual match win of the season, taking a victory over the Sacred Heart Pioneers by a final of 5-2 in Connecticut Sunday afternoon. Taking the clinching point was
Geovanny Mendoza, as he took his singles match by a final of 6-4, 6-4.
Mendoze would take his win in No. 5 singles, which would be clutch after Sacred Heart snagged wins in the first two singles matches. But
Guillermo Lopez Torres,
Muhammad Sawani, and
Matt Bellino also added to Medoza's victory to take four points. The Saints would also take the doubles point, as No. 1 doubles pairing of Lopez Torres and
Tomas del Olmo scored a clutch 7-5 win, and
Sagar Bains and
Matt Nardone would take the win at No. 3 doubles, 6-2.
"Today the guys came with a lot of energy and played very well," said head coach
Jeff Osborn. "Last year we lost 6-1 against this Sacred Heart team, so it was nice to get a 5-2 win today."
The Saints return to the court next Friday, October 11 when they head to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on Holy Cross.
