APALACHIN, NY – Due to inclement weather, Monday scheduled action at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational in Apalachin, NY was canceled, leaving the event complete after one round of play. As a result, Siena Men's Golf tied for fifth with +9, 297, while junior Jack Brown (-3, 69) tied for third place individually.
As a result of the shortened play, the Saints take home their second top-5 team finish of the Fall 2019 season, tying with MAAC foe Monmouth. Fellow conference foes Canisius and Rider tied for the team title at at -3, 285, while Saint Peter's (+8, 296) finished a stroke ahead of the Green and Gold. Niagara (+11, 299) tied for seventh, while Iona (+12, 300) split for ninth.
Brown laid down five birdies in Sunday's opening round at The Links at Hiawatha Landing, entering Monday's play tied with golfers from Rider and Laval University and just one stroke off the individual lead.
Following behind Brown were freshmen Jack Tobin and Nolan Crowley, who each birdied four times in the first round. Tobin shot +3, 75 to land in a tie for 26th while Tobin carded +4, 76 to end in a split for 36th.
Junior co-captain Pudge Williams birdied three times to go below his season average thus far, carding +5, 77 to land in a tie for 45th. Rounding out the team's five-man competition squad was freshman Moritz Weigold, who birdies once en-route to shooting +9, 81 and finishing Saturday in a tie for 64th.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Brody Yates birdied on the par-5 ninth and 18th holes to shoot +6, 78 and finish the day in a tie for 47th place individually.
Siena will conclude its Fall 2019 slate October 18-19, when it travels to Bethlehem, PA to take part in the Lehigh Invitational.
