It was a tough night for the Siena Saints on Tuesday, as they struggled on the offensive end early and fell to the Florida Atlantic Owls on the road by a final score of 83-39.
Florida Atlantic's Juliette Gauthier scored 24 points on 9-for-18 shooting, including six threes. She also snagged 12 rebounds for a double-double, as Lotta Vehka-Aho and Abby Voss each scored 10 points apiece as well. As a team, the Owls shot 46.8 percent from the floor, including a 45.5 percent clip from distance.
The Saints were led by a 16-point showing from sophomore
Amari Anthony, as she also snagged a team-high eight rebounds. Senior
Sabrina Piper added nine points and three steals, and sophomore
Haley Blasetti notched a team-high four assists. Siena shots 23.6 percent from the field as a team.
The Green and Gold struggled early, as the Owls opened the game with a 22-0 run over the first five plus minutes, as Piper broke the scoreless mark with a pair of free throws. Siena shot just 17.2 percent in the first half, as it stood 54-17 at the half.
In the second half, the Saints came out to a 16-3 run to cut down the Owls lead. A trio of three pointers from Piper, Anthony, and
Marilena Gerostergiou would be the catalyst during the run. Siena would outscore the Owls in the third quarter 19-11. However, Florida Atlantic had things swing back in their favor in the fourth, as the Saints struggled to score down the stretch.
The Saints return to the floor after the calendar rolls into December, as they head to Hamilton, New York to take on the Colgate Raiders. Tip-off for the game is set for 7 p.m.
