Playing for the second time in the historic Palestra in program history, the Siena Saints fell to the perennial Ivy League power and defending league champion Penn by a final score of 92-44.
The Saints were led by a 21-point showing from senior
Sabrina Piper, who also snagged five rebounds and three assists. Junior
Marilena Gerostergiou scored a career-high 12 points, while classmate
DeAnna Winston also set a career-high in rebounds with four. Freshman
Julia Hauer led the battle on the boards for Siena, aa she grabbed seven on the contest.
The Quakers Eleah Parker matched Piper with 21 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the floor. Mia Lakstigala followed Parker on the scoresheet with 18 points, as she went 4-for-6 including a 3-for-5 mark from beyond the arc. Freshman Kayla Padilla scored 14, seven in each half in her collegiate debut.
Penn came out of the gate strong, taking a quick 7-0 lead as Parker scored all seven points. The Quakers offensive output led them to a 30-7 lead after the first frame of play. After three quarters, play stood at 79-26. In the first half, Penn shot 52.9 percent from the field, and finished at 48.5 percent.
The Saints then outscored the Quakers in the fourth quarter, putting up 18 to Penn's 13 points. The Green and Gold ended the game on a 7-0 run, and also played their best defensive stretch of the game in the final 2:26 of the game holding Penn without a field goal.
Siena struggled overall, turning the ball over 22 times, which Penn turned into 30 points off turnovers. The Quakers outscored the Saints in the paint 48-22.
The Green and Gold return to the floor on Tuesday, Nov. 12 when they head to Cambridge, Massachusetts to take on another Ivy League member Harvard at 7 p.m.
