EAST MEADOW, NY– Siena Swimming & Diving kicked off its time at the 2019 ECAC Winter Championships with a strong start Friday evening. The Saints scored 228.5 points to finish day one in fourth place out of 12 competing teams.
MAAC foe Fairfield leads the pack with 358 points, while conference counterpart Monmouth sits in fourth with 200 points and Manhattan College is currently in ninth with 98 points.
Day one commenced with the 1-meter diving finals, which saw freshman Lydia DeLano finish in a tie for ninth place with 158.35 points.
The Saints then competed in a pair of relay events, placing seventh and 12th in the 200-yard medley relay, and seventh and ninth in the 800 yard freestyle relay. The medley relay team of senior Rachel Brown, junior Shannon Leary, sophomore Isabel Harms and freshman Jessica Shine led the way in the first relay, while the group of Brown, Harms, senior Katelyn Ludwicki and freshman Reilly King did so for the 800 free relay.
King joined classmate Lauren Ostrander in posting best times in the only individual event of the day, with the pair placing 11th and 12th, respectively in the 1650-yard freestyle. King swam a 17:57.12 in the mile, while Ostrander clocked a 17:57.48, with both competing in the event for the first time in their collegiate careers. Senior Carrie Bonvissuto (15th, 18:04.72) and junior Sydney Lautenslager (20th, 18:16.73) also competed in the event.
The Saints will next take the pool for a loaded day two beginning on Saturday, December 7 at 9:00 a.m.
