EAST MEADOW, NY– Six different members of the Siena swimming & diving team put forth eight best times Sunday as the Saints concluded action at the 2019 ECAC Winter Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, NY.
The Green and Gold took home sixth place out of 13 competing teams, their best finish since placing fourth in 2016. MAAC competitor Fairfield took home the ECAC title with 1835 points, while Monmouth placed third with 1094 points and Manhattan took eighth with 369 points.
Each of the six swimmers that posted a personal best in the final session of the three-day event were freshmen for the Saints. Freshmen Reilly King (2:12.76) and Lauren Ostrander (54.37) took home best times for the third straight day, doing so in the 200 back and 100 free, respectively.
Ellie Murphy (58.96, 2:46.03) and Sydney Murinka (1:00.35, 2:40.00) each posted multiple personal bests on the day, with both doing so in the 100 free and the 200 breast, respectively.
Finally, Elisabeth Balicanta set a personal best in the 200 back (2:15.82), while Jessica Shine did so in the 200 fly (2:10.05).
The Saints also fielded a pair of teams in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with the pairing of Ostrander, sophomore Abigail Sheridan and seniors Alyssa Lewis and Rachel Brown placing seventh and the group of King, sophomore Isabel Harms and seniors Carrie Bonvissuto and Katelyn Ludwicki placing ninth.
Throughout the duration of the meet, Siena saw 24 best times achieved and one individual champion crowned. The Saints will now look to 2020 for their next competition, with the next dual meet scheduled for Saturday, January 11 at 1 PM, when the team hosts Vermont at the Siena Swim Center.
