Records Fall as Women’s Lacrosse Flies by Hartford

Saints Set New Program Record in Goals and Ties Win Margin

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Saints made some changes in their record book against the Hartford Hawks on Wednesday afternoon. The Green and Gold would score 22 goals in a game, setting a new program record and tying the program's record in win margin by 17 as they topped the Hawks by a final score of 22-5.

The record 22 goals would break the previous record of 21 goals scored at Presbyterian on Feb. 21, 2010. The 17-goal margin would tie the Saints previous record when they won by 17 in a game at home against UMass Lowell on Mar. 11, 2015. With the win, the Saints return to .500 on the season.

Siena (3-3) was led by a seven point day from sophomore Kerry Gerety, as she scored five goals and two assists. Julia Pelcher and Mary Soures also scored three times, with Pelcher adding two assists. Kaitlyn Dowsett, Nicole McNeely, Hayley Kmack, and Jillian Risavi all scored twice on the game, as McNeely added two assists and Risavi had one.
Hartford (0-8) was led by a two goal day from both Elena Hynes and Kaitlyn D'Andrea. Billy McLaughlin also scored for the Hawks, with Megan Miller, Rosie Sconzo, and Jessica Harrison each collected assists. Hynes also added a pair of ground balls to her resume on the day.

The Hawks would get the scoring started less than a minute into the first half, as D'Andrea notched a goal to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. That would lead to an outpour of offense from the Saints, as Gerety led the way during an 8-0 run as she scored four goals around goals from Pelcher, McNeely, and Soures. With an 8-1 lead at the 12:24 mark, Hartford made a small run scoring three goals in a row from there to cut the lead to 8-4 with 10:02 to play in the first. That would be as close as the Hawks would get, as the Saints would extend out the lead to 14-4 by the half.

Siena would continue to control the scoreboard in the second half, as they only allowed one Hartford goal at the 16:29 mark, but scored another eight goals in the second half. The Saints would see first-time goal scorers in Risavi, Alexandra Rekos, and Kaitlyn Lembo this season.

The Saints would outshoot the Hawks 41-16 on the game, and win the ground ball battle 20-9. The Green and Gold also won the turnovers race, as they forced 18 Hawks turnovers to their 10.

Siena returns to action this weekend, on Saturday, March 16 when they head across town to take on the Albany Great Danes. The opening draw will go up at 12 p.m.
