Dowsett’s Five Scores Lead Women’s Lacrosse Over St. Bonaventure

Saints Continue Strong Offensive Output in Win

The Siena Saints continued their winning ways on Tuesday afternoon, as the women's lacrosse team routed the St. Bonaventure Bonnies by a final score of 18-6. Redshirt freshman Kaitlyn Dowsett provided the fire power, scoring a game-high five goals in the victory.

With the win, Siena (4-4) is now winners of four of their last five games, outscoring their opponents 60-24 in the four wins.

The Saints were led offensively by Dowsett's five goals, but sophomore Nicole McNeely led the way with six total points, scoring four goals and tossing out a pair of assists. Sophomores Julia Pelcher and reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week Kerry Gerety put out four points each as well. Pelcher scored twice with two assists, while Gerety added one goal and dishing three assists. Siena combined for eight total goal scorers in the game, and nine players accruing points. Senior goalie Sammy Horton grabbed her fourth win of the season, making eight saves in the game.

Leading St. Bonaventure (1-7) was Destinee Johnson, as she put up a three-point day with a pair of goals and an assist for the Bonnies. Rylee Arnold scored twice as well, while Ashley Easterday and Madison Mundenar also scored a goal apiece for St. Bonaventure. Goalie Savannah Clarke made seven saves in the loss.

The Green and Gold came out flying in the first half, scoring four goals within the first four minutes of play, including a score from Pelcher just 33 seconds into the game. With a goal added from sophomore Hayley Kmack at the 24:17 mark, that gave Siena a 5-1 lead from five different scorers up to that point. After St. Bonaventure scored at the 22:51 mark to cut the score to 5-2, Siena went off. Dowsett would score three times amonst a Green and Gold 7-0 run from the 20:15 mark through the 6:19 mark of the first half to build a 12-2 lead. The run would be capped by a goal from senior Annie Brennan, and the Bonnies would add a score just before the half to make it 12-3 at the half way point.

The scoring would slow in the second half, but the Saints continued to build their lead and only allow St. Bonaventure three goals in each half. Kmack would open the scoring in the second half less than a minute in, getting the ball rolling for Siena. Kaitlyn Lembo would get in on the action with a score at the 26:39 mark, followed by a pair of goals from freshman Mary Soures. Dowsett and McNeely would put the finishing touches on the game with the final two goals, with McNeely scoring with two seconds left on the clock to cap the victory.

Siena would outshoot the Bonnies by a total of 33-18 on the game, and also win the draw control battle 16-6.

The Saints will return to action this Saturday, March 23 when they play host to the Iona Gaels to open MAAC play. The opening draw goes off at 1 p.m.
