Teeing off for the first time in three weeks, Siena Men's Golf concluded round one of the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational in a tie with MAAC rival Canisius for 16th overall. The Saints shot +24, 312 as a team in the first of two rounds at the par-72, 6655-yard Silver Creek Country Club golf course in Hellertown, PA, which kicked off the first of four straight rounds in the Keystone State on the schedule.
Overall, Colgate stands atop the crowded 20-team group, carding +2, 290 on the day. Fellow conference competitors St. Peter's (T2, +6, 294) and Ion (T7, +13, 301) finished the round inside the Top-10, while Rider (+18, 206) concluded play in 12th, Monmouth (+23, 311 ) tied for 14th just ahead of the Saints and Niagara (+42, 330) took 20th.
Individually, senior captain Jack Bellardini carded a team-high three birdies to finish with a spring best of +4, 76, good for a 12-way tie for 38th place. Sophomore Jack Brown (+5, 77) landed just a stroke behind, in a seven-way split for 50th, while senior Jack Downey (+7, 79) and sophomore Pudge Williams (+8, 80) wrapped the day in ties for 72nd and 77th, respectively. Closing out the team's five-man competing squad was senior Tanner Donovan, who shot +11, 82 to split for 99th.
Competing as an individual on the week, senior James Pelcher shot +14, 86 to land in a split for 108th overall and tied for 13th among individuals.
Following the first round of play, Siena will conclude the 36-hole event hosted by Lafayette Monday morning, with action set to begin at 10 AM.
