Brown Captures First Individual Medalist Honors At Yale Spring Invitational

The Sophomore Tied A Program Record And Helped The Saints To a Fourth Place Finish

For the second time in the 2018-19 season, a member of Siena Men's Golf took home the top spot in tournament play. Sophomore Jack Brown shot -6, 134 at the Yale Spring Invitational to earn his first career individual medalist honors Saturday afternoon, tying a program record in the process.

Taking the course for the final time in the regular season, Brown carded a pair of -3, 67 rounds to become the second Siena golfer to go in the 60's this season, joining freshman Jared Nelson. In doing so, Brown stood alongside his rookie counterpart in tying the program record for low 36-round (134) score, and tied for second in low 36-hole total versus par (-6), according to the program's modern-day records dating back to 1993. Brown's performance included four birdies in each round, and stands as his 18-hole and 36-hole personal bests.

Steadied behind a pair of top-10 individual performances, Siena capped its regular season slate with its fifth top-10 and third top-5 team finish of the season, placing fourth out of 12 teams at the single-day, 36-hole event in New Haven, CT with  +18, 718. The mark is good for the team's best finish in three consecutive appearances at the event.

Playing from the top spot, Nelson joined Brown in landing inside the top-10 on the day, shooting +1, 141 to land in a six-way tie for eighth place. The Rutland, VT native's performance included a 68 on the first go-around on the Par, 70 6825-yard Course at Yale, good for his fourth round of the year under 70.

Behind the top-two finishers of the day for the Saints, senior Jack Downey joined Brown in achieving 18-hole par for the first time this year, combining rounds of even, 70 and +6, 76 to finish +6, 146 for a four-way split for 25th. Classmate Jack Bellardini and sophomore Pudge Williams (+10) rounded out the Green and Gold's top five counted finishers, with the two sitting in a nine-way split for 44th place. Williams' first-round mark of +2, 72 signified an 18-hole season low for the Washington, DC native. Rounding out the Saints' competing team, freshman Brad Whitaker registered +12, 152 to land in a split for 58th place.

Following its final regular season competition of the 2018-19 slate, Siena Men's golf will now gear up for its 30 appearance at the MAAC Championships, held this season April 18-20 at Disney's Magnolia Golf course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. With four conference championships to their name, the Saints will look to build on a second-place team finish in 2018, which saw then-senior Michael Christifulli take home individual medalist honors and advance to the NCAA Men's Golf Regionals.
