Pickett Proclaimed ECAC Rookie of the Year

Freshman Phenom Becomes Siena’s First-Ever ECAC Rookie of the Year

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The major awards just keep on rolling in for Jalen Pickett. A day after being named a Freshman All-American, the Rochester, New York native has been tabbed the 2019 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division I Rookie of the Year as well as an All-ECAC Second Team selection.
 
Pickett becomes Siena's first-ever ECAC major award winner and is just the fourth player in program history to earn All-ECAC recognition, joining fellow Second Team honorees Ryan Rossiter (2011) and Alex Franklin (2010), and First Team selection Jack Mulvey (1965). Pickett was one of two MAAC players named to the 11-member All-ECAC squads, joining First Team honoree Cameron Young of Quinnipiac. The ECAC is comprised of 87 Division I members
 
Hofstra's Justin Wright-Foreman (Player of the Year) and Colgate's Matt Langel (Coach of the Year) joined Pickett as major award winners. The All-ECAC First Team was comprised of Wright-Foreman, Young, Myles Powell (Seton Hall), RJ Cole (Howard), Jermaine Marrow (Hampton), and Keith Braxton (Saint Francis). Pickett was joined on the All-ECAC Second Team by Rapolas Ivanauskas (Colgate), Phil Booth (Villanova), Shizz Alston, Jr. (Temple), and Andrew Kostecka (Loyola).
 
In addition to today's ECAC and yesterday's Freshmen All-American honors, Pickett was previously named an NABC District 1 First Team selection, the unanimous 2018-19 MAAC Rookie of the Year, and the conference's second-ever freshman to be named First Team All-MAAC. Also named a unanimous MAAC All-Rookie Team selection, Pickett won a league-record 11 MAAC Rookie of the Week honors this season which was tied for the second most in NCAA Division I history. He was named the CBS Sports/USBWA National Freshman of the Week on Feb. 19, and on Dec. 3 swept the MAAC's weekly honors to become just the fourth league freshman in the past 33 years to be named MAAC Player of the Week.
 
Pickett currently ranks ninth nationally in assists (6.7), 22nd in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.76), and 35th in steals (2.0). Amongst NCAA Division I freshmen, he ranks second in assists, fourth in steals, and fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio. Pickett led the MAAC in both assists and assist-to-turnover ratio, ranked second in steals, fourth in blocks (0.9), and seventh in scoring (15.8). Pickett broke both Siena's freshman scoring (521) and steals (66) records, while also achieving the fourth highest single-season assist total (221) in school history.
