Men’s Golf Fires Off 36-Hole Season Low At Wildcat Invitational

The Saints Improved One Stroke Tuesday To Finish With Their Lowest Score Since 2016

Siena Men's Golf displayed their best tournament play of the season at the Wildcat Invitational, wrapping play with one of its lowest 36-hole marks in program history. The Saints carded a team mark of +7, 291 in round two Tuesday, finishing the event in 12th place at +15, 583.

The mark stands as the best two round output of the 2018-19 season, beating out the team's score at the Cornell Invitational back in September by one stroke. 583 is the lowest the squad has gone since firing off -4, 572 in the first two rounds of the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational during the 2016-17 campaign and is good for the third-best overall since 1993.

After beginning the day as the top individual, freshman Jared Nelson fired off his sixth round of par or better of the season to conclude play on the par-71, 6733-yard course at the White Manor Country Club. The Rutland, VT native went even once again to finish in a four-way split for 21st overall. Following behind was sophomore Jack Brown (+4, 146), who improved on his round score by shooting +1, 72 and senior Jack Downey (+7, 149), with each concluding play in ties for 42nd and 63rd place, respectively.

The team's biggest jump of the day came from senior Jack Bellardini (+9, 151) who ties for the largest improvement in the tournament, dropping his score by nine strokes after joining Nelson in going even, 71 in round two. The co-captain concluded play in a nine-way split for 76th, while sophomore Pudge Williams rounded out the five-man competition team, carding +11, 153 on the week to knot for 87th.

Following their final multi-round event of the 2018-19 regular season, the Green and Gold will have one final challenge before heading to Florida to compete in the 2019 MAAC Championships at the end of the month. Siena will head to New Haven, CT to partake in the Yale Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 13.
