Racing in the sixth and final heat of the night, junior
Evans Kibet ran a 1:50.41 in the Men's 800m run at the NCAA Preliminary East Regional Thursday night in Jacksonville, FL. That would give Kibet a fourth place finish in his heat, and a 15th place finish overall, advancing him to Friday's quarterfinal.
Kibet, ranked 20th coming into the night, would run five spots faster than his seed, and just off pace of his personal best time he set to reach the NCAA's. The Nandi Hills, Kenya native will now be seeded for tomorrow's quarterfinal. The top 12 runners from Friday, with the top three in each heat as well as the other top three times, will advance to the national championship in Austin, TX at the University of Texas.
Friday's races for the Men's 800m will commence at 6:45 PM, with his heat to be determined randomly after snaking the field's grouping of times.
