ITHACA, NY – Siena Men's Golf fought its way to remain inside the top-10 following two season-opening rounds at the Cornell Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Saints shot 294 in round one and 302 in round two to conclude the day tied with fellow MAAC competitor Canisius in 10th place out of 16 teams at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course with +28, 596.
Despite struggling in his second go-around, freshman Nolan Crowley spent much of the first round near the top of the individual leaderboard, shooting even, 71 with three birdies in his first collegiate round for the Green and Gold. Entering round two just a stroke behind at 72, classmate Jack Tobin laid down four birdies in 36 holes to conclude the day as the team leader, landing in a split for seventh at +1, 143.
Junior captain Jack Brown ended day one at the par 71, 6904-yard course in a split for 41st place, laying down rounds of 74 and 76 with six combined birdies. Freshman Moritz Weigold shot 77 in each round, landing the team's first eagle of the year on the 563-yard par-5 eighth holing his second go-around to finish the day in a split for 58th.
Competing from the no. 3 spot, junior captain Pudge Williams improved one stroke in his second round to finish +15 in a tie for 71st. Crowley rounded out the five-man competition squad for the Saints at +20 and in a tie for 83rd individually.
Siena will round out the 54-hole tournament with a tee-time start from hole 10 at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 15.
