ITHACA, NY – Competing in his first tournament as a member of the Siena men's golf team, freshman Jack Tobin used a stellar performance on Sunday to conclude the Cornell Invitational in a tie for third place individually. Tobin helped the Saints improve by four strokes in round three at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca, NY, finishing 11th out of 16 teams with +34, 886.
The Saints finished a stroke behind MAAC foe Canisius, while Columbia walked away with the team title, besting Bucknell by a stroke with 866.
Entering the day split for seventh following rounds of 72 & 71 through the first 36 holes on Saturday, Tobin carded four birdies en-route to -3, 68 in round three, becoming the first Saint to go under 70 on the season. The performance landed the Southborough, Massachusetts native tied with Bucknell's Chris Tanabe for third place individually with -2, 211.
Joining Tobin in going par or better on Sunday was junior captain Jack Brown, who carded par-71 with three birdies to move into a split for 29th place on the weekend (+8, 221).
After surging to start his collegiate career and struggling in the second round, freshman Nolan Crowley shot +4, 75 in round three on the par-71, 6904-yard course to improve to 79th individually in his collegiate debut. Classmate Moritz Weigold finished a stroke behind in the final round to place in a tie for 63rd on the weekend, while junior captain Pudge Williams shot 77 to finish 72nd.
Following the conclusion of its first tournament of the 2019-20 campaign, Siena will next gear up for the Dartmouth Invitational, taking place Sept. 21-22 in Hanover, New Hampshire.
