Men’s Soccer Falls at Cornell

A Penalty Kick in the 12th Minute Proved to be the Difference in the 1-0 final

Box Score

ITHACA, NY – Siena Men's Soccer (3-4) competed against Ivy League foe Cornell (4-2) for just the second time in program history Tuesday evening, falling to the Big Red at Berman Field, 1-0.

The home team got on the board early and continued to control the offensive flow of the match from there on out. The game's deciding score came off a penalty kick in the 12th minute, set up by a Siena foul inside the six-yard line. The kick was converted on by reigning Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week Harry Fuller, giving Cornell the chance at their second 1-0 victory over the Saints in as many times faced.

The Big Red would go on to out-shoot Siena 15-1 in the first half and 29-2 in the match, with junior Alejandro Riquelme and senior Matt Crisafulli each recording an attempt for the Saints. The Green and Gold were limited to spending much of the second half on the defensive, with junior Jacob Pacheco assessed a red card in the 51st minute that put the team a man-down.

Fresh off picking up his first career MAAC weekly honor, sophomore goalkeeper Greg Monroe spent the entirety of the match in-between-the-pipes, adding four saves to his season total.

Despite the setback, Siena wraps up non-conference play for the 2019 season with its best record since 2014. The Saints will conclude a three-game road trip in their MAAC opener next Wednesday, heading west to face Canisius on Oct. 2 at 4:00 p.m.
