NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Siena Basketball begins a pivotal weekend in the City when the Saints take on four-time defending MAAC Tournament Champion Iona Friday Night at 7 p.m. at the Hynes Athletics Center. The Saints head into the halfway point of the conference schedule this evening just a game in back of current MAAC frontrunner Monmouth.
Siena (9-9, 5-4) enters tonight's contest in search of its elusive first road win of the season. The Saints are the only Division I team nationally who is undefeated at home and winless in true road games so far this season. Siena has won three of their last four in New Rochelle by a total of seven points, as the road team has emerged victorious in 10 of the last 12 meetings between the programs.
The MAAC preseason favorites who received 10 of 11 first-place votes, Iona (5-10, 3-5) concludes a stretch tonight where they play five of six within the newly reconstructed Hynes Athletics Center. The Gaels have alternated wins and losses in their last seven games.
Iona leads the all-time series 65-51, as the Saints have faced the Gaels more times than any other opponent (116 times). Iona has won 17 of the last 22 meetings overall, although each of the last five regular season meetings have all been decided by five points or less.
