ORLANDO, FL – Siena Baseball (0-4) concluded its opening weekend series with a 10-2 loss at the University of Central Florida Sunday afternoon.
Coming off a Saturday doubleheader, the Saints scored twice in the first two frames of the ballgame to break out to a 2-0 lead. Junior Jake Hall got the Saints on the board with an RBI double in the top of the first inning, while classmate Tim Carroll came home in the top of the next frame off a throwing error while Brendan Conley was stealing second.
The Golden Knights (4-0) took back control of the game for good in the bottom of the third inning with a six-run outburst that allowed them to bat around and pull out to a 6-2 advantage. The crooked frame included a pair of RBI singles, an RBI double, a wild pitch and a solo home run, which started it off.
UCF Plated three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning off two more RBI singles and a sacrifice fly and used an RBI triple in the eighth to enter double-figures.
The Knights saw right-hander Jack Sinclair (1-0) take the win in four relief innings on the mound, hurling 10 strikeouts wile allowing just one hit. Southpaw Joe Sheridan began the contest with a four-inning no-decision, striking out five and allowing a pair of runs (one earned) on as many hits. Transfer junior Jordan Walden (0-1) was tagged with the loss in his Siena debut, surrendering six runs (five earned) on seven hits in two and one-third innings on, striiking out a pair of batter and walking one.
Siena will be back in action next weekend, trekking back to the southeast for non-conference tournament action. The Saints will take part in the South Alabama Invitational February 22-23 and are set to face off against Tennessee-Martin, South Alabama & Indiana.
