Women’s Tennis Ends Weekend on High Note, Tops Providence

Saints Win Two of Three Over Weekend for Sixth Win

LATHAM, NY – The Siena women's tennis team continued their strong play thus far in 2020, as they concluded their weekend on a high note defeating the Providence Friars by a final score of 5-2 at Tri-City Fitness Sunday morning.

"The women fought hard and kept up their energy against a good opponent," said assistant tennis coach Andy Schechter. "I was pleased with the way they responded when they got pushed, and a win like this helps to build a successful season."

Despite falling at court 1, the Saints found great matches from #2 singles in Nanea Perkins and Juliana Goehner, as well as #3 singles in Anastasia Koniaev and Petra Miszczak. The #2 doubles duo routed their match to a 6-0 win, while the ladder duo finished with a 6-2 win to give Siena the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

Clinching the winning point at #4 singles was Koniaev, as she took a win in straight sets by a final of 6-1, 6-4 despite the Saints losing a point on a defaulted #6 singles spot. Miszczak and Goehner also won in singles, giving the Saints their four points to secure the match victory. Despite her doubles loss, sophomore Meagan Brown bounced back to the tune of a 6-2, 6-1 win at #1 singles.

The Saints return to action tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 20 when they return to Tri-City Fitness to take on the Colgate Raiders. Opening serve kicks things off at 5:45 p.m.
