FAIRFIELD, CT - Siena Basketball begins a critical three-game road trip when the Saints look to complete the regular season series sweep of Fairfield Sunday at 2 p.m. at Alumni Hall. Winners of seven of their last eight to move into sole possession of second place in the MAAC Standings, Siena will be tested down the stretch with four of their final five regular season games away from home.Â
Fresh off their second four-game homestand sweep this season, Siena (14-10, 10-5) will look to carry its momentum over to the road. The Saints are a perfect 13-0 within the friendly confines of the Times Union Center this season, but will look to improve upon their 1-10 road mark to close out the regular season.Â
Meanwhile Fairfield (11-15, 7-8) finds itself in a four-way tie for sixth place with Manhattan, Niagara, and Quinnipiac to enter the day, and just a half-game back of fifth place Iona who currently holds the final First Round bye in next month's MAAC Tournament. The Stags are 5-5 at home this season, but 4-1 on campus in Alumni Hall where they've won four straight.Â
Siena leads the all-time series 41-32 and has won six of the past eight meetings including three straight. The Saints are in search of their second straight regular season series sweep of Fairfield, and third in the past four years. Siena captured the first meeting between the teams 65-49 on Feb. 7 in Albany. The Saints led throughout and by as many as 20 points, while allowing their fewest points of the season on just 30.2% shooting. The programs are set to meet on Fairfield's campus at Alumni Hall for the first time in 19 years, dating back to a 65-46 Siena victory on Feb. 16, 2001. Current Siena Head Coach
Carmen Maciariello had one point and five rebounds for the Saints in the win.Â
