LOUDONVILLE, NY – With a fast paced first half that was close at the half, the UAlbany Great Danes would pull away from the Siena Saints as the Green and Gold would fall 20-10 in women's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon.
Siena was led by a five-point day from junior
Nicole McNeely, as they scored four times and added an assist. Both senior
Annie Brennan and junior
Julia Pelcher scored three goals and an assist apiece. Junior
Kerry Gerety would snag an assist and 10 draw controls on the afternoon.
Putting up an eight point day was UAlbany's Ally Alliegro, as she scored four goals and four assists. Sam Tortora scored a goal but dished out five assists. Scoring five goals on six shots was Sarah Falk, while Kyla Zapolski also added a hat trick with three goals.
The Great Danes jumped on the scoreboard first just 39 seconds into the game as Zapolski got the ball rolling. Just a few minutes later, Brennan would go back-to-back with goals within a minute span to give Siena a 2-1 lead. But the Siena lead would only last a minute, as the Great Danes got a goal from Alliegro to tie things 2-2. Over the final 13 minutes, Siena would grab a 5-4 lead but surrender a trio of goals to the Great Danes over the final 1:41 of the first half to go into the locker room 7-5.
The Great Danes took off offensively in the second half, putting up three different runs of three straight goals. For the Saints, McNeely would find her scoring touch amidst the UAlbany tallies.
The Saints return to action this Saturday, March 14 when they head east to Connecticut to take on Hartford. Opening draw for the game will kick things off at 2 p.m.
