LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Siena Men's Tennis team defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders in a tight match on the road Sunday by a final score of 4-3 Sunday afternoon.
"Emotions took over in today's match and we almost gave it away," said head coach
Jeff Osborn. "This is something we will need to work on moving forward. We need to learn how to play not so tight when the match gets tight. In the end, a win is a win but we can play better and will work hard in the spring to get us back to where I know we can be."
Siena jumped to the early lead after doubles play thanks to two pairings taking wins. At #1 Doubles was
Agustin Suarez and
Matt Nardone, and the duo took a clean 6-0 win. Wrapping up the point would be the #2 Doubles pair of
Tomas del Olmo and
Mathis Tremblay. The vet and freshman took a 6-3 win, giving Siena the 1-0 lead with the doubles point.
In singles action, Suarez would step up at #2 Singles winning in three sets after dropping the first set to clinch the match. Suarez would take a 6-7 (5), 7-5, 10-8 victory, while sophomore
Darek Kuczynski had the easiest path on the day as the only singles match to not go all three games. He would take a straight 6-3, 6-3 victory. With those three points, the fourth point came from
Jose Pablo Davila, who won at #5 singles 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.
The Saints will end their fall season this week starting on Thursday, Oct. 14 when Siena will have both doubles pairings and singles participating in the ITA Northeast Regional. The event will be held in Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania.
