Niagara Cools Off Saints

Purple Eagles Snap Women’s Soccer’s Three Match Win Streak

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The nation's 10th leading scorer Florence Vailancourt notched a goal and an assist as Niagara snapped Siena Women's Soccer's three-match win streak with a 2-0 decision at Hickey Field. Leslie Adams made eight saves for the Saints, who had entered play unbeaten in five of their previous six matches, while averaging an even 2.0 goals per contest over that time.

Ida Miceli scored just 104 seconds into the match, finishing a feed from Vailancourt to give Niagara (10-3, 4-2) a quick lead they would not relinquish. Vailancourt then added her 10th goal in just 13 matches in the 67th minute, as the Purple Eagles pulled even with Siena (6-7-1, 4-2) in the MAAC Standings to open the second half slate.

Niagara doubled up the Saints with an 18-9 shot advantage, while both sides registered four corner kicks apiece. Annie Bagnall accounted for five of Siena's nine shots.

Felicia Grufman made three saves to post the shutout for the Purple Eagles which evened a tightly contested all-time series at 14-14-5.

The Saints will look to bounce back Saturday when they face another stiff test vs. a Quinnipiac squad which is off to a 10-2 overall start. Siena will honor their nine seniors in a special Senior Day ceremony just prior to the scheduled 1 p.m. kickoff.
