Saints Rally Past Manhattan in Waning Moments

Women’s Soccer Clinches MAAC Tournament Berth in Dramatic Fashion

LOUDONVILLE, NY – Gabby DeAngelis capped a thrilling late comeback by scoring the golden goal just 98 seconds into overtime as Siena Women's Soccer rallied past Manhattan 2-1 at Hickey Field. The Saints struck twice in the final 6:47 of regulation and overtime to stun the Jaspers and officially clinch a MAAC Tournament berth.

Siena (8-7-1, 6-2) held a decided 19-8 shots advantage and a 6-4 margin in corners, but found themselves trailing and in danger of defeat heading into the waning moments. However, the Saints would come through when it counted most, and closed out both their season-long three-match homestand and regular season slate at Hickey Field on a high note.

Siena scored the equalizer with just 5:09 left in the second half. Jayanna Monds passed in from the right to Carrie Krohn, who re-directed the feed just inside the near right post for her second straight goal against Manhattan (7-6, 3-5). Krohn also accounted for the Saints' lone score in the most recent meeting between the programs, a 1-1 draw in Riverdale in 2019.

Siena then wasted no time putting it away in overtime to run their home unbeaten streak vs. the Jaspers to nine straight (8-0-1). Lexi Bartlow served in a corner kick from the right which Emily McNelis headed in traffic off the far-left post. The rebound caromed right to DeAngelis, who punched in her first collegiate goal in dramatic fashion.

Julia Nicholas opened the scoring in the 52nd minute for Manhattan which suffered just its second defeat in seven road matches this fall. Kim Mains made seven saves for the Jaspers which have now dropped five of their last seven overall.

Winners of five of their last six, the Saints maintained their second-place position in the MAAC Standings while also pulling within a point of league frontrunner Monmouth. Fittingly enough, the two teams square off in the penultimate regular season contest Saturday at 1 p.m. on the Jersey Shore, in a match which could well decide the regular season champion.
