Men’s Soccer Plays MAAC Leader Marist to Scoreless Draw

Siena Continues Sold Play at Home, Honors Seniors with Hard Fought Point

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The ever-renewing rivalry between Siena and Marist did not disappoint at Hickey Field Saturday afternoon, as the Saints and Red Foxes battled it out for 110 minutes on Hickey Field. Siena Men's Soccer (6-6-3, 2-3-2) played to their third draw of the year in scoreless fashion against the current MAAC leader, kicking off a stretch of three of its final four regular season matches at home.

Looking to rebound after a two-match road losing skid, the Saints turned a slow first half start into a tightly contested battle for the final 65 minutes. Despite being outshot, 24-9, and Marist holding an 11-5 corner kick advantage, Siena put forth multiple chances to score in the second half and overtime, with sophomore Cole Hellert registering four shots in 77 minutes off the bench, and classmate Bilal Hersi adding three. Marist's Stefan Copetti led all players with seven shots on the day.

The two squads registered their first tie against each other since 2001, with Siena playing in a scoreless draw for the second time this calendar year (March 28 vs. Monmouth). The physical encounter featured three combined yellow cards and 32 total fouls, with the Red Foxes responsible for 20. Senior goalkeeper Greg Monroe celebrated senior day by tying his career high in saves with 11, marking the third time the Clifton Park, NY native has accumulated 11 saves in a match.

Siena will continue action at home when it hosts Canisius at Hickey Field on Wednesday, October 26, with action set for 3 PM on Siena All-Access.
