Karbowski Secures 200th Career Win as Saints Down Marist

Women’s Soccer Wins Third Straight to Improve to 4-1 in the MAAC

Ashleigh Sarafin scored the lone goal in the 82nd minute as Siena Women's Soccer broke through late to defeat MAAC rival Marist 1-0 in Poughkeepsie to give head coach Steve Karbowski his milestone 200th career win. Brooke Boermeester made six saves for the reigning MAAC Champions who have won three straight to improve to 4-1 in conference action midway through their title defense.

Siena (6-6-1, 4-1), which entered play averaging 10.8 shots per contest, nearly doubled their average in registering a season-high 21 shots. But it wasn't until their 21st and final tally that they finally cashed in. With just 8:34 remaining in regulation, Katrina Kurtz served in a corner kick from the right which Sarafin headed in by the far post for her third goal of the season.

The late tally would be all that the Saints would need to spoil Senior Night for Marist (4-4-2, 3-2-1), and improve to a dominant 8-2-1 over their I-87 rivals spanning the past 11 meetings. Overall, Siena held a 21-15 shot advantage and a 6-1 margin in corners.

Natalie Kelchner made seven saves in defeat for the Red Foxes who had entered play unbeaten in six of their previous seven matches (4-1-2).

The Saints open the second half of MAAC play by embarking upon a season-long three-match homestand when they host Niagara Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Hickey Field.
