WEST POINT, NY - Former MAAC and ECAC rivals Siena and Army West Point meet for the first time in 31 years Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Christl Arena.
Siena (1-5) and Army West Point (4-2) meet for the 11th time in a series which dates back to 1955, but for the first time since the Black Knights edged the Saints 71-69 in West Point in the second - and final - MAAC meeting between the programs on Feb. 20, 1990. The schools previously met two other times as conference rivals in the now-defunct ECAC Metro from 1980-82.
The Saints are in search of a much-needed win against their former league rivals as they look to close out their November slate on a high note. Siena is looking to bounce back following a tough 65-56 overtime loss just two days prior against another Patriot League foe in Bucknell. The Bison were predicted to finish tied for sixth out of 10 teams according to the Patriot League Preseason Poll, while Army was slotted fourth. The Saints are ultimately set to play each of their final four non-conference contests against Patriot League programs, wth future matchups at Holy Cross (Dec. 11) and at American (Dec. 28) looming.
Army is a perfect 3-0 at home so far this season, including a 65-61 triumph over MAAC member Marist Saturday. The Black Knights currently lead the Patriot League in the early going in both field goal percentage defense (.383) and rebounding (39.7).
