JERSEY CITY, NJ - Siena Basketball looks to secure a split of its conference-opening weekend when the Saints travel to Saint Peter's Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest.
Siena (2-6, 0-1) hopes a newly named and new-look Run Baby Run Arena will provide new found success for the Saints in Jersey City. Siena has dropped 10 straight against their nemesis Saint Peter's (2-3, 1-0) at the formerly named Yanitelli Center, with their last victory coming on Jan. 28, 2010. Overall, the MAAC rivals have split the regular season series each of the previous six seasons, and the home team has won 16 of the past 18 meetings overall.
The Saints are looking to bounce back from their second overtime setback in five days Friday night, a 77-72 defeat against upstart Manhattan at the Times Union Center. Siena led by as many as 13 in the second half before succumbing.
Aidan Carpenter tied for the team lead with a season-high 12 points in his second game back from injury, while
Jared Billups continued to provide a spark off the bench. The freshman posted season-highs for a second straight game with 11 points and six rebounds.
Predicted to finish second according to the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Peacocks won their MAAC opener 69-59 at Quinnipiac Friday night. Following a slow start, MAAC Preseason Player of the Year KC Ndefo had a season-best performance, tallying 16 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists for Saint Peter's which held the Bobcats to just 32% shooting including only 5-22 from three.
