Siena Men's Golf returned to action for the first time in nearly a year Saturday, taking part in the initial round of the 2021 MAAC Spring Kickoff at the Shore Gate Golf Club in Ocean View, New Jersey. The Saints stand second out of five conference rivals following day one action, shooting +18, 306 in their first team round of the season.
Rider shot +5, 293 as a team to lead the five-squad field in what was a chilly start to action that saw tee times delayed into the morning. Fairfield finished the first round a stroke behind the Saints at +19, 307, while host Iona (+20, 308) and Monmouth (+32, 320) rounded out the field.
Sophomore Jack Tobin, junior Brody Yates, and senior Jack Brown each led the team in their first action of the year, shooting +3, 75 on the par-72, 6,824-yard course to land among a five-way tie for fifth. Sophomore Nolan Crowley and senior Pudge Williams tied for 17th, shooting +8, 80 on the day, while sophomore Moritz Weigold, who was competing as an individual, withdrew from play.
Heading into the final round of action, Rider's Austin Devereux leads the field by five strokes, shooting -6, 66 in the field round. The MAAC Spring Kickoff will conclude on Sunday, March 7, with tee times scheduled for 10 AM.
