Volleyball Takes on #4 Rider in MAAC Semifinals

Saints Duel With Broncs For A Trip to MAAC Championship

Siena Volleyball looks to make their first trip to the MAAC Championship game since 2014 as the eighth-seeded Saints take on the No. 4 seed Rider Broncs in the MAAC Semifinals at the Albany Capital Center at 7 p.m.

The Saints make their 25th appearance in the MAAC Tournament in program history, and their first appearance in the MAAC Tournament since 2018. Siena was eliminated by the then third-seeded Broncs 3-1 in the MAAC Quarterfinals in their last postseason match. The Saints currently sit 1-2 all-time against the Broncs in the MAAC Tournament, with the one win coming in 2016 in a 3-0 victory. Overall, in program history, Siena is 30-20 all-time MAAC Tournament matches. The come into the championship with a 1-6 overall record on the season, with their win coming at the Albany Capital Center over Manhattan. 
 
The Green and Gold returned home to the UHY Center for the first time this year last Wednesday afternoon, as the Saints fell to the Niagara Purple Eagles in a single match by a final score of 3-1 (22-25, 25-13, 26-24, 25-19). Siena was led by a 13 kill, 14 dig effort from freshman Hailey Hinkel, as well as a team-high 15 kills from Greta Stjade. Senior Dakota Jackson was also in double-digit kills with 12, while Anna Mayer and Gracie Halley chipped in with double-digit digs with 14 and 12, respectively. Mayer also added 21 assists, while Meghan Johnsson also had 23 assists.
 
Anilee Sher had 30 assists and Morgan Romano and Ali Ward had nine kills apiece as the fourth-seeded Broncs defeated fifth-seeded Manhattan, 3-0 on Thursday evening in the MAAC Quarterfinals. Rider took the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-21, respectively, before cruising to a 25-14 win in the third to clinch the match. Rider is currently on a four-match winning streak and are 5-4 overall on the season. Sher and Romano were both named First Team All-MAAC in the fall of 2019, with Morgan Koch earning Second Team All-MAAC honors.
 
In total, the Saints and Broncs meet for the 41st time. Siena holds a 28-12 advantage over the Broncs, with it being the first meeting between the schools this year.
