Saints Top Stags, Advance to MAAC Championship Match

Women’s Tennis Will Compete in First Title Match Since 2016-17 Season

For the first time since the 2016-17 season, the Siena Women's Tennis team will make an appearance in the MAAC Championship match as they defeated the No. 2 seed Fairfield Stags by a final score of 4-1. The Saints will be in pursuit of their first MAAC Championship since 2006.

The No. 3 seeded Saints will now face the top-seeded Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. for the MAAC Championship. The Saints fell 5-2 to the Bobcats earlier this season. The last time the Saints also appeared in the MAAC Championship in 2016-17, they faced and lost to the first-seeded Bobcats by a final score of 4-2.

Junior Meagan Brown went a perfect 2-0 on the day with wins in both singles and doubles play. Senior Kylie Mullaney, sophomore Petra Miszczak, and freshman Emma Boggiali would snag a win in doubles play, while sophomore Maanya Viswanath and junior Anastasia Koniaev would get wins in singles play.

To start the day, the Saints fell in their first doubles match on Court 3, but were able to reverse the course on the other courts. Brown and Mullaney would prove their #1 Doubles Second Team All-MAAC honor with a 6-4 win, leaving Court 2 to decide the point. Sophomore Petra Miszczak and Boggiali would clinch the point, as they would win 6-3 as Siena would go up 1-0 in the match.

Siena would wrap things up in singles play, as Brown, Viswanath, and Koniaev each won in straight sets at #1 Singles, #4 Singles, and #6 Singles as the Saints would clinch the win and other courts going unfinished due to the victory. Fairfield would only win at Court 5 in singles for their lone point.

Brown would defeat her opponent Amanda Nowak at #1 by a final of 6-3, 6-4. Viswanath took care of Francesca Karman at #4 Singles 6-1, 6-4. Lastly, Koniaev topped Anna Komer at #6 Singles by a final of 6-2, 6-2.
