Youth Leads Men’s Tennis to Win over Hofstra

Underclassmen Step Up in Program’s First Victory Over CAA Powerhouse

SCHENECTADY, NY – The young talent on the Siena Men's Tennis team stepped up on Monday afternoon, and aided the Green and Gold in a 5-2 victory over the Hofstra Pride on Monday afternoon at Central Park in Schenectady. The win would be the first over the CAA foe in the Jeff Osborn era.

In doubles play, despite losing on court 1, the Saints got big performances from Darek Kuczynski and Geovanny Mendoza on court 3 as they won 6-1, while on court 2 it would be sophomore Matt Nardone and freshman Soma Yokoyama clinching the point with a 7-5 win. That would give the Saints the 1-0 lead headed into singles play.

Junior Tomas del Olmo led the charge at #1 singles with a big win 7-6 (5), 7-5 to get the ball rolling. Kuczynski, Nardone, and Yokoyama would supplement the 2-0 Saints lead with wins in the middle part of the lineup to help claim victory for the Green and Gold.

The Saints return to action on Saturday, Apr. 10 when they head east to Connecticut to take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats starting at 12 p.m.
