LOUDONVILLE, NY – The defending MAAC Champion Siena Women's Tennis team got their dual match season off on the right foot, as the Green and Gold were dominant in a 6-1 victory over Sacred Heart at Tri-City Fitness on Sunday evening.
The only point lost would come at the #1 singles court, as the Saints topped the Pioneers in doubles. Senior Meghan Brown and freshman
Laia Giralt won 6-4. The clinching doubles point came on Court 3, as
Maanya Viswanath and
Anastasia Koniaev took a close 7-5 win to go into singles with a 1-0 lead.
Giralt got the scoring started on Court 2 in singles, as she swept through in straight sets in 6-4, 7-5. Koniaev would do the same at #6 singles, taking a commanding 7-5, 6-1 win to put Siena up 3-0. Junior
Maanya Viswanath also scored in straight sets, winning 6-4, 6-4 at #5 singles. Boggiali and Perkins each took three sets to victory, but scored nonetheless to build up the Siena victory to six points.
The Saints return to action as a team in January, but might have some representatives at the ITA Regionals upcoming in West Point next weekend from Oct. 1-3.
