Fairfield Slips Past Saints in Waning Moments

Stags Hand Women’s Soccer Heartbreaking Defeat

Reagan Klarmann scored the decisive goal with just 92 seconds left in regulation as Fairfield rallied past Siena Women's Soccer 3-2 in a seesaw scoring affair in Connecticut. Julianna Kissane and Emily McNelis scored for the Saints who saw their six-match MAAC Regular Season unbeaten streak snapped.

Elle Scott scored the first two goals for Fairfield (6-2-3, 2-0-1) which extended its longest unbeaten streak in 13 years to eight straight (5-0-3), while erupting for 20 total goals during that time.

Scott staked the Stags to a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute of a first half which saw Fairfield out-shoot Siena (3-6-1, 1-1) by a 10-1 margin. But one shot was all the Saints would need in the opening stanza, as Kissane leveled the score in the 34th minute. The senior scored her second goal of the season, finishing a long free kick by Brianna Montinard which was headed down by Morgan Camarda deep in the box.

Siena then scored its second goal on just its third shot in a match where the Stags held a 17-5 overall shot advantage and a 6-2 margin in corners. A failed clear off a cross in the box in the 62nd minute was corralled by McNelis who roofed home her third of the year from the top of the 18 to put the Saints in front.

But the lead was short-lived as Scott netted the equalizer just seven minutes later, preceding Klarmann's game-winner, as Fairfield handed Siena its first conference defeat in nearly two full years dating back to the 2019 season finale.

Leslie Adams made seven saves in goal for the Saints.

Siena will look to bounce back Saturday when they host Iona for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Hickey Field on ESPN3.
